#IMHO and #IANAD
A little tongue in cheek at the top here, but:
- Amputation – effective and incredibly fast. See results over night. Note: Medical risk. Also: not serious.
- Gastric Sleeve – Very effective and essentially permanent. Goes against ‘No New Holes’ policy
- GLP-1 Receptor meds – Very effective, quite expensive ($300/mo or ?). Lose weight now, find it later!
- Calorie Deficit – Effective over time with lifestyle change. As cheap as you want.
- Everything else: Supplements, Intuitive eating, hypnosis, keto diet, grapefruit diet… oh god the list goes on forever
Until I find out #4 just doesn’t’ work for me, I’ll be doing that.
Calorie Defecit means (in the slightly bastardized words of Michael Polan): Eat (slightly less) than just enough. See Food Rules. It goes by a lot of other names: CICO (Calories In/Calories Out), Dieting, Weigh Watchers… The general approach is incredibly sound and well proven. And… it’s difficult, not always permanent, and requires patience and discipline. Which makes it somewhat less attractive than 1-3 and 5 and down. On the plus side: No new holes, it’s basically free, it is exactly the healthy way to do things (and we’re doing this for health reasons right? Abs is just a bonus).
How to make it easier/more effective
- Reasonable Expectations (more than 2lbs a week is really hard, be realistic & patient)
- Weigh every day (and use the average). Also: monthly pictures will help.
- Count your calories (Use Macrofactor, be consistent)
- Consistency counts (You don’t have to nail every day, but you do have to nail more than 85%)
- Keep exercising, but don’t make that.ypir weight loss plan
To be honest – almost everything on the 1-5 list is a variant of Calories Deficit. Gastric Sleeve works by restricting stomach volume, which… Reduces calories in (it’s a bit more than that, but not much). GLP-1 makes you feel full more (or want food less)., so you eat less.
