Out riding with Ms. M

My wife and I got out for a ride this weekend – notable because we don’t ride together very often.

She was a bit concerned about the traffic, our local freeways were all due to be closed. She also wanted to drive our bikes to a trail of some sort – stuck in traffic to ride a bike sounds bad.

I plotted a ride to The Valley of the Gnomes, in the Madrona neighborhood of Seattle. We took the light rail from. Northgate to get there, avoiding a fair bit of elevation gain on the way. I plan for us to ride down to the Montlake bridge, to keep thing headed downhill (and easy).

Welp – turns out getting over to Madrona has a fair number of big hills. Ms. M. was a super trooper and climbed them all. The gnomes were interesting, Madrona was fun to real estate shop in, and the weather was great.

We stopped for food at Saint Bread in the UW. Long lines, ok food. Amazingly, we saw our friend Tom who we’ve been out of touch with for a number of years. Great to see him.

And, we kept going – rather than catch the light rail back up to Northgate, we rode up through Ravenna Park, then long city streets back to the car.

Super proud of Ms. M for handling the urban traffic well. It can be a bit scary to ride in the road, she did great.
